Why does YTS exist...

The Government and Mayors' Taskforce for jobs have a shared goal, that -

'By the end of 2007, all 15-19 year olds will be engaged in appropriate education, training, work or other options that will lead to long term economic independence and well-being'

Both the Mayor of Napier, Barbara Arnott and the Mayor of Hastings Lawrence Yule have a ongoing involvement with Napier and Hastings Youth Transition Service.

 

YTS Core Functions

  • To follow-up school leavers, ascertain where they are transitioning to and offer customised support if young person has not identified a 'next step'.

  • To engage with young people who are at risk of prolonged disengagement from work, education, or training. These may be community and school referrals or have been identified through school leaver follow-up.

  • To identify and support the development of appropriate labour market, education and training opportunities for young people.

  • To provide a forum for ongoing strategic planning and co-ordination of services for young people.
